California Releases New Learning Tools

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

The State Superintendent of Public Schools, Tony Thurmond, announced recently that the California Department of Education has released new diagnostic and assessment tools and strategies that are aligned with state standards and connected to instructional supports. These diagnostic and formative assessment tools can help teachers identify where students are in their learning when they return to school and adjust their instruction to meet student needs in the fall and throughout the year.

These tools and strategies offer multiple ways to measure a student’s learning “without exacerbating the trauma they have experienced in recent months, while providing educators tools they needs to accelerate learning.”

In addition to assessments, teachers may use multiple measures from various sources, such as classroom assessments, narrative report cards, essays, and class projects to determine where children are in their learning and identify areas in which they may need additional support.

Stay tuned for more information on school site reopening.
